Product Description

What is API 5CT Seamless Tubing Pipe?

Purpose: Tubing pipes are smaller-diameter pipes that are run inside the casing. Their primary role is to:

  • Transport Hydrocarbons: Serve as the primary conduit for transporting produced oil and natural gas (and sometimes water) from the reservoir to the surface.
  • Protect Casing: Protect the casing from corrosive fluids, high temperatures, and erosion from the produced fluids.
  • Facilitate Operations: Allow for the injection of fluids (e.g., water, steam for enhanced oil recovery) or the deployment of downhole tools.
  • Allow for Replacement: Tubing can be retrieved and replaced more easily than casing if it becomes damaged or needs to be changed for production optimization.

Seamless Characteristic of API 5CT Seamless Tubing Pipe

  • Like casing, seamless tubing is manufactured without welds, providing superior strength, integrity, and resistance to internal pressure, which is vital for the safe and efficient flow of hydrocarbons.

Key Features & Grades:

Diameter: Generally smaller in diameter than casing, typically ranging from about 1.05 inches to 4 1/2 inches.

Wall Thickness: Thinner than casing, as their primary function is fluid conveyance, not structural support of the wellbore itself.

Grades: Similar steel grades to casing are used, but the selection depends on the expected pressure, temperature, and corrosive nature of the produced fluids. Common tubing grades include:

    • H40, J55, K55, N80 (Type 1 and Q), L80 (including 9Cr and 13Cr), C90, T95, P110.

Connections: Different threaded connections are used, often including:

    • Non-Upset Tubing (NU)
    • External Upset Tubing (EU)
    • Integral Joint Tubing (IJ)

Corrosion Resistance: Special attention is paid to corrosion resistance, especially for tubing, as it directly handles the produced fluids which can be highly corrosive (e.g., containing H2S or CO2). L80-9Cr and L80-13Cr are common choices for highly corrosive wells.
