Product Description
What is ASTM A500 Structural Pipe?
ASTM A500 ERW Welded Pipes refers to a type of carbon steel structural tubing that meets the specifications of the ASTM A500 standard and is manufactured using the Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) process.
- ASTM A500: This is a standard specification published by ASTM International (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials). It covers cold-formed welded and seamless carbon steel structural tubing in various shapes, including round, square, and rectangular. It’s the most commonly specified ASTM standard for hollow structural sections (HSS) in the United States.
- ERW (Electric Resistance Welding): This is a manufacturing process where flat-rolled steel is formed into a tube and then its longitudinal edges are welded together by applying pressure and passing a strong electric current through them. The resistance to the current generates heat, which melts the edges, and the applied pressure forges them together.
ASTM A500 structural pipe can come in:
- Round
- Square
- Rectangular
- Special shapes
