Product Description
EN 10217-1 Fire Sprinkler Pipes
Non-Alloy Welded Steel Tubes for Pressure Systems
What Are EN 10217-1 Fire Sprinkler Pipes?
EN 10217-1 fire sprinkler pipes are non-alloy welded steel tubes manufactured to the European standard EN 10217-1, designed for pressure applications at ambient and moderately elevated temperatures (typically up to 120°C). Unlike EN 10255 which classifies pipes by Light/Medium/Heavy series, EN 10217-1 specifies pipes by precise outside diameter × wall thickness, making them ideal for welded connection pressure systems such as fire sprinkler mains, hydrant lines, and industrial water supply networks.
The standard is part of the EN 10217 family (Parts 1–7) and is harmonized under the EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU), allowing CE marking for pressure applications.
Material & Steel Grades
EN 10217-1 covers four non-alloy steel grades, each with specific room-temperature mechanical properties:
| Grade | Yield Strength (min) | Tensile Strength | Impact Energy (0°C / -20°C) | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| P195TR1 | 195 MPa | 320–440 MPa | Not specified | Low-pressure, non-critical |
| P195TR2 | 195 MPa | 320–440 MPa | ≥ 27 J @ 0°C | Improved toughness |
| P235TR1 | 235 MPa | 360–510 MPa | Not specified | Standard pressure |
| P235TR2 | 235 MPa | 360–510 MPa | ≥ 27 J @ 0°C | Fire sprinkler & pressure systems |
| P265TR1 | 265 MPa | 410–570 MPa | Not specified | Higher strength |
| P265TR2 | 265 MPa | 410–570 MPa | ≥ 27 J @ 0°C | High-demand pressu |
Applications: Where Are EN 10217-1 Pipes Used
Because EN 10217-1 pipes are designed for welded connection pressure systems, they are widely used in:
Fire sprinkler mains and branch lines – Wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems
Hydrant and standpipe systems – Above-ground and buried fire water mains
Industrial cooling water and process water – Factories, chemical plants
District heating and chilled water networks – HVAC and utility systems
Compressed air and general pressure piping – Non-corrosive media
💡 Selection tip: Use EN 10217-1 for main supply lines and welded headers (≥ 4″ / DN100) where pressure integrity and joint strength are critical. Use EN 10255 for branch lines and threaded connections (≤ 2″ / DN50).
