Product Description
What is EN 10219 Hollow Section Square and Rectangular Steel Pipe ?
EN 10219 is a European standard (EN stands for “European Norm”) that specifies the technical delivery requirements for cold-formed welded structural hollow sections of non-alloy and fine-grain steels. This includes square and rectangular steel pipe/hollow section tube (SHS and RHS)
It’s one of the most widely used standards for HSS in Europe, distinct from EN 10210 which covers hot-finished HSS.

Applications of EN 10219 Hollow Section Square and Rectangular Steel Pipe
EN 10219 HSS is a highly versatile and cost-effective material used extensively in a wide array of structural and construction projects:
- General Building Construction: Columns, beams, trusses, frameworks, bracing in industrial, commercial, and residential buildings.
- Architectural Applications: Exposed structural elements where a clean, sharp-edged aesthetic is desired.
- Light to Medium Fabrication: Machine frames, supports, agricultural equipment.
- Infrastructure: Bridges (smaller spans or components), pedestrian bridges, street furniture, sign structures.
- Vehicle Chassis and Components: In some automotive and transport applications.
Key Difference Between EN 10219 and EN 10210 Hollow Section:
The fundamental difference lies in the manufacturing process:
- EN 10219 = Cold-Formed, Welded, Without Subsequent Heat Treatment.
- EN 10210 = Hot-Finished (formed hot or cold-formed with subsequent heat treatment).
- This difference impacts properties like residual stress, impact toughness (especially at low temperatures), and the typical range of sizes and wall thicknesses available. Designers choose between EN 10219 and EN 10210 based on the specific structural requirements, environmental conditions, and cost-efficiency goals of their project.
