Product Description

What is Seamless ASTM A179  Boiler Tubes ?

ASTM A179 boiler tubes is a standard specification for seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel boiler tubes for tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and similar heat transfer apparatuses.

While it can be used in some lower-pressure or smaller boiler applications, its primary focus is on efficient heat transfer in equipment like heat exchangers and condensers, rather than solely high-pressure steam generation in the main boiler sections.

ASTM A179 Boiler Tubes vs. ASTM A192 vs. ASTM A210 (Key Differences):

The main distinction lies in their intended application and the stress conditions they are designed to handle:

  1. ASTM A179:
    • Application: Primarily for heat exchangers and condensers, and generally suitable for medium and low-temperature heat transfer applications (maximum operating temperature often cited as ).
    • Manufacturing: Seamless cold-drawn.
    • Carbon Content: Low carbon steel.
    • Strength: Good strength, but typically lower than A210.
  2. ASTM A192:
    • Application: For high-pressure boiler tubes and superheaters. It’s often used for boiler heating surface tubes like economizers, water walls, and superheaters where high pressures and temperatures up to around are present.
    • Manufacturing: Seamless (can be hot-finished or cold-finished).
    • Carbon Content: Low carbon steel.
    • Strength: Designed for high pressure, with similar mechanical properties to A179 but often allowing for a slightly higher hardness (less emphasis on ductility for bending).
  3. ASTM A210:
    • Application: For seamless medium-carbon steel boiler and superheater tubes for high-pressure service. It’s often chosen for more demanding, very high-temperature sections like superheaters where greater strength and creep resistance are required, especially above the temperature ranges typically associated with A179.
    • Manufacturing: Seamless (hot-finished or cold-finished).
    • Carbon Content: Medium carbon steel.
    • Strength: Higher strength (especially Grade C) compared to A179 and A192, making it suitable for more extreme conditions.
