PPGI Prepainted Steel Coils

PPGI stands for prepainted galvanized iron, although the substrate is usually galvanized steel. A ppgi steel coil is produced by applying pretreatment, primer and finish coatings to zinc-coated steel through a continuous coil-coating process.

PPGI uses a zinc-coated steel substrate, while PPGL uses an aluminum-zinc alloy-coated substrate. PPGL generally provides better heat and corrosion resistance, while PPGI offers good formability, paint adhesion and cost efficiency.

Prepainted steel coil is commonly used for roofing sheets, wall panels, garage doors, appliances, furniture, containers and automotive components. Experienced ppgi steel coil manufacturers can customize the color, paint system, coating thickness and dimensions for each application.

Common problems include color fading, chalking, paint peeling, scratches, blistering and corrosion at cut edges. These issues may result from unsuitable coating selection, insufficient zinc or paint thickness, poor storage, improper forming or exposure to aggressive environments.

PPGI sheets do not have one fixed lifespan. Properly specified and installed prepainted steel roofing and wall panels can last 40 years or longer, but actual performance depends on the zinc coating, paint system, climate, installation and maintenance.
