Carbon Seamless Pipes

Carbon seamless pipes are a type of pipe made from carbon steel without any welded seams. This unique manufacturing process gives them a significant advantage in terms of strength and reliability, particularly in high-pressure and high-temperature applications. Main standards of BAOLAI® seamless pipes are ASTM A53, ASTM A500, ASTM A106, API 5L, API 5CT, etc.

FAQs

1. What Is a Carbon Steel Pipe?

A carbon steel pipe is made primarily from iron and carbon, with controlled amounts of other elements. It is widely used for transporting water, oil, gas, steam, and air, as well as in mechanical and structural applications.

2. What Is the Difference Between Carbon Steel Pipe and Black Steel Pipe?

Carbon steel describes the pipe’s material, while black steel describes its surface finish. Most black steel pipe is carbon steel pipe with a dark mill-scale or oxide surface and no zinc coating. Carbon steel pipe can also be galvanized, painted, or coated.

3. What Are the Common Problems With Carbon Steel Pipe?

Common problems include corrosion, pitting, scale buildup, and gradual wall-thickness loss when the pipe lacks suitable protection. A seamless carbon steel pipe may also have dimensional issues such as eccentric wall thickness, ovality, or surface defects if manufacturing control is inadequate.

4. Is A53 the Same as A106?

No. ASTM A53 covers welded and seamless black or galvanized pipe for general mechanical and pressure applications. ASTM A106 covers only carbon steel seamless pipe intended for high-temperature service. Some Grade B pipes can be dual-certified when they meet every requirement of both standards.

5. What Is Carbon Steel Seamless Pipe ASTM A106 Grade B?

ASTM A106 Grade B is a seamless carbon steel pipe specification for high-temperature service. It is commonly used in power plants, refineries, boilers, petrochemical facilities, and process piping that transports fluids or gases at elevated temperatures. The required size, schedule, testing, and heat treatment must follow the project specification.
