Welded pipes are a type of pipe formed from a flat steel plate or strip that is bent into a cylindrical shape and then welded along the seam. This manufacturing process makes them a cost-effective alternative to seamless pipes, especially for larger diameters and applications where a high-pressure rating isn’t the primary concern.
Welded Pipe Types: There are several types of BAOLAI® welded pipes, classified by their manufacturing process and the orientation of the weld: Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) Steel Pipes, Square and Rectangular Welded Pipes, Galvanized Welded Pipes, and Spiral Welded Pipes(SSAW).

A welded steel pipe is made by forming steel strip or plate into a round, square, or rectangular shape and welding the edges together. It is widely used for fluid transportation, structural construction, piling, and mechanical applications.
Welded tubes are made by forming steel coil or plate into the required shape and joining the edges with electric resistance or submerged arc welding. The weld seam is then inspected, and the tube may undergo sizing, straightening, cutting, testing, and surface coating.
The main types of welded pipes are electric resistance welded pipe, longitudinal submerged arc welded pipe, and spiral submerged arc welded pipe. They are commonly known as ERW, LSAW, and SSAW pipes. Square and rectangular welded tubes are also available for structural applications.
Welded tubes are formed from steel strip or plate and have a welded seam. Seamless tubes are produced from a solid billet without a longitudinal seam. Welded products are often more economical and available in a wider range of sizes, while seamless tubes are commonly selected for demanding pressure or temperature conditions.
There is no single grade for welded pipe material. Common options include ASTM A53 Grades A and B for general piping, ASTM A500 Grades B and C for structural tubing, and API 5L Grade B, X42, X52, and higher grades for pipelines. The correct grade depends on the application, design pressure, temperature, and required standard.
